Your Favorite ROMs and Tweaks topic

The HTC One M8 has been out just a little over a year now and it still competes with the latest flagship devices. Obviously this is an amazing device and outside of nexus devices it is my favorite phone of all time. I'm curious what most users think are the best Roms and tweaks for this device.

Tweaks:

For me... MultiRom is a must. I got this phone roughly two months ago and fell in love with the device and as I'm a flashaholic MultiRom was an inevitability. Multi is definitely one of my favorite features of this phone and really android as a whole. Who would have thought years ago that we'd be dual booting cellphones?

Viper4Android is also a must for me. I own 3 pairs of higher end headphones; Sony MDR SA5000s, Beats By Dre Studio v2, and Sennheiser HD558 (I recently broke these) and V4A complements an audiophile with or without the BoomSound/HarmonKardon Tweak. V4A is another must for me especially when running AOSP builds.
-Small note: a newer audio tweak had made its way onto the android scene and I've found it compliments v4a quite well. eXtreme Beats has no GUI or any settings, though it does have optional downloadable profiles for v4a that are pretty nice. In my experience eXtreme Beats on its own is fantastic and used in combination with v4a it definitely improves on even v4a's greatness. It should be noted that at the moment eXtreme doesn't seem to work with BoomSound or HarmonKardon...

OGYouTube, Material Messaging, and AdAway are three well known apps that aren't really tweaks but personal preferences I have to recommend.

Roms: I'm going to separate these into Sense based and AOSP/GPE

Sense: as far as sense goes I feel like sense is light years ahead of touchwiz but it's still not my preferable framework. I think sense is cool and I can see why people enjoy it... Its just not my preference... That being said there are some sense Roms I enjoy.

ViperOne By Team Venom is, in my opinion, the best sense based ROM for the m8. I've followed team venom for awhile off and on and I used to not enjoy their work... Boy was I wrong. They've definitely stepped their game up over the years and have really taken custom sense Roms to an incredible level. The amount of customization they bring to the table is insane and they've brought a cm/aosp feel to sense that I never thought would happen. Again as far as sense Roms go theirs is my favorite.

A close second would be the sightly less customizable LeeDrOiD. The self proclaimed most senior sense ROM developer has created an awesome custom sense ROM. While his customization isn't quite as advanced as Team Venoms this is one man doing the work of the entire Venom Team and LD comes in a close second in my eyes. Both roms make sense a lot more tolerable (for me) and both deserve an immense amount of respect and admiration.

It should be noted that I dislike sense 7 and for the time being prefer sense 6 to 7 mainly because the amount of customization on 7 isn't yet up to par with 6.

AOSP/GPE: My personal preference...

I'm not going to comment on GPE. I'm on Verizon and I think DH has done a great job porting GPE to our CDMA devices... I just other the aosp feel to GPE.

There are an immense number of AOSP Roms but I'm only going to cover a few of my favorites.

(Newly Official!) PACman (Lollipop 5.1.1);
I'm somewhat biased as I fell in love with PAC when it was released on Jellybean. There have been several Roms that have combined pieces of what we love about some of the major custom Roms but I feel no one has ever done it as well as the devs at PAC. Combining (P)aranoidAndroid(A)OKP(C)yanogenMod PAC brings with it some of the best features of the big three. It also seems to have the best implementation of HeadsUp Notifications that I've seen on any aosp ROM including the newest PA builds. It also looks like we will soon be getting nightly builds now that we've got official support... Definitely my favorite aosp ROM... Really my favorite ROM period.

Dirty Unicorns (Lollipop 5.1.1);
I've started repeatedly that there is a big difference between compiling a build and actually developing. Many people are able to compile CyanogenMod and cherry pick features... Actual development (like PA did with PIE) is a different thing all together. We're lucky here on the m8 to have a developer who's building DU and creating some unique development. DU has several unique features and is an all around great build based off OmniRom. Probably my third favorite AOSP/CM style ROM.

SOKP (Sonic Open Kang Project: Lollipop 5.1.1):
SOKP has a ton of features and is built off of CyanogenMod. Like many of the other cherry picks its extensive amount of features are awesome and is definitely one of the more stable AOSP builds. This ROM also has the best sound quality (stock after install) of any AOSP build for the m8. The developer has put an immense amount of time in attempting to correct the sound issues plaguing AOSP/CM on the m8. Probably my second favorite m8 ROM.

AND LASTLY...

Lollipop Dream CyanogenMod (Lollipop 5.0 *currently hopefully will see 5.1 soon):
This is pure CyanogenMod 12 built off Linaro toolchain with a few fixes and .odex'd for speed. While I prefer the current nightly builds to this rom, once the developer updates to 5.1 this will certainly be on my phone. Compared to raw cm these lollipop dream builds are much smoother and quicker. Definitely one of the best raw cm builds I've seen on any device.

Honorable Mention: (Official) Paranoid Android (Lollipop 5.1.1):
Paranoid Android is very well known and for me their latest official build is flawless. Others, however, have had cell signal issues and other small bugs with it. I love PA for their great innovation they've brought to the android community but unfortunately they are lacking a few small features that most lollipop builds have. It was disappointing to see they still don't have these small features. That coupled with the current compatibility some people are reporting has kept it off my list here. Though it is a very early release and I'm sure the PA team will have it up and running in no time.

So... What are your favorite Roms and tweaks you're using on your m8???

HTC One (M8) MultiRom: PACman 5.1.1; SOKP 5.1.1; CyanogenMod 12.1.1 (Nightlys updated weekly); ViperOne M8 w/Hypernova Kernel

  1. Even though diamond plate is designed for heavy use and abuse, it pays to
    guard it each time and as much as possible.
